Did you know that the original self-closing hinge for cabinet doors was invented by Orville D. Merillat, founder of Merillat Woodworking Co., now a Masco Cabinetry brand? That's just one of the interesting bits of information shared recently by Masco Rep. Kirk Bamrick, at Dresser Hull's Spring INDOOR/OUTDOOR Event.
Kirk walked interested guests through a portfolio describing the Merillat cabinet collections, including Basics, Classic and Masterpiece. The Basics Collection offers five door styles and 14 finish combinations, while The Masterpiece Collection features more than 40 door styles and 12K finish combinations!
Speaking of cabinet finishes, you can get an inside look at one such process, the DuraKraft Plus finishing system, as it unfolds in a video produced by KraftMaid, another Masco brand. (The Masterpiece Collection literature promotes the MasterCoat finishing system designed to provide "added durability, clarity, and a silk-smooth feel.") Watching production videos will give you a new perspective on the making of any product!
Orville Merillat innovated the production of cabinets, too, facilitating assembly line construction by standardizing cabinetry in 3-inch increments, and pioneering the kitchen-at-a-time manufacturing model, according to the company.
